With the NFL season almost here, it is time for me to make my official award predictions. Some of these awards are made up and some are official. Let's get into it.
OROTY: Caleb Williams
For Offensive Rookie of the Year, I have none other than the Number 1 overall pick Caleb Williams. Out of all number 1 picks in NFL history, Caleb Williams probably finds himself in the best situation. He has a great receiving core in DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze, and a strong rushing option in D'Andre Swift. I expect Caleb Williams to light it up this year.
DROTY: Jared Verse
For Defensive Rookie of the Year, I have Jared Verse. With Aaron Donald retiring, the Rams need someone to fill in his shoes. Jared Verse is the perfect guy for this. With plenty of opportunities, I expect Jared Verse to win DROTY.
CPOY: Sam Darnold
For Comeback Player of the Year, I have none other than Sam Darnold. This is a guy that I believe has never been given a fair shot. Now, on the Vikings, Darnold will have a legitimate chance to prove himself. With elite weapons in Addison and Jefferson, I expect Darnold to have a breakout year.
Surprise Team of the Year: Seattle Seahawks
My surprise team of the year is the Geno Smith led Seattle Seahawks. With new HC Mike Macdonald, I expect the Seahawks defense to take a massive leap. With lots of young talent on the defensive side such as Tariq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon, I wouldn't be surprised if the Seahawks had a top-10 defense. The only question mark for me is on the offensive side of the ball, but I believe Geno Smith will look elite and take the Seahawks to the playoffs.
Disappointing Team of the Year: Philadelphia Eagles
My disappointing team of the year is the Philadelphia Eagles. I'll be honest- I am not the biggest Jalen Hurts fan. I just don't see the arm talent I would like in an elite QB. I anticipate this season will be very similar to last season: a strong start and a very poor finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles miss the playoffs.
Breakout Player of the Year: Jameson Williams
Jameson Williams is a player I am super excited about this year. This will be his first full season in the NFL and I expect it to be a good one. In an extremely high-powered offense, Jameson Williams will be the best deep threat on the team. Don't be surprised if Jameson Williams finds the endzone a lot this season.
Disappointing Player of the Year: Brock Purdy
For my most disappointing player of the year, I have 49ers QB Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy is a great scheme fit for the 49ers, but he is not an elite QB. Last year in the playoffs, Purdy did not play great. This year, with McCaffrey likely out for Week 1, I expect Purdy to have a slight fall-off. I don't see him leading the 49ers past the divisional round.
COTY: Mike Macdonald
For Coach of the Year, I have new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. Mike Macdonald is coming into a team with a lot of talent. If he can coach the Seahawks just like he did the Ravens, he is almost a lock for this award.
OPOY: Breece Hall
For Offensive Player of the Year, I have Jets RB Breece Hall. If Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy throughout the season, the Jets offense will be electric. Many people think Garrett Wilson will be the focal point of the offense, but I believe it will be Breece Hall. Breece Hall is a threat in both the run and pass game, and I expect the Jets to take full advantage of that this year.
DPOY: Maxx Crosby
For Defensive Player of the Year, I have Raiders DE Maxx Crosby finally winning the award. Crosby has been consistently dominant for the last couple of years and I expect him to have his most productive season this year. If the Raiders defense can perform just as well as they did last year, I fully expect Crosby to win this award by a pretty large margin.
MVP: Josh Allen
For the Most Valuable Player award, I have Bills quarterback Josh Allen taking home the award. There have been many narratives around Josh Allen including "He's carried by Diggs' or "He's a turnover machine". This is the year he's going to prove everybody wrong. Josh Allen is going to will the Buffalo Bills into the playoffs and maybe even deeper, ultimately giving Allen the MVP award.
