With the NFL Draft approaching, it's time to give my way-too-early predictions for the 2024 NFL Season. Here are my 5 bold predictions for the upcoming season:
1.CJ Stroud and the Texans Make the AFC Championship
My first bold prediction is that CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans will make the AFC Championship. To start off, the AFC is getting significantly weaker. We don't know how Joe Burrow will look and Josh Allen has just lost his main weapon. If there is any year for a team to make a playoff run in the AFC, it's going to be this year. There are only 2 teams that I potentially see stopping this Texans team in the playoffs: the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. However, I would not be surprised at all to see the Texans go all the way. They just had a huge free agency, signing Danielle Hunter and trading for RB Joe Mixon and WR Stefon Diggs. To me, anything short of the AFC Championship would be disappointing for the Texans.
2. The Atlanta Falcons Make a Playoff Run
My second bold prediction is that the Atlanta Falcons make a playoff push. It's going to take a couple of games for Cousins to get suited with his new team, so I do expect the beginning of the season to be a little shaky for the Falcons. However, once this team hits their stride, they are going to be very scary. Kyle Pitts is ready for a breakout year, and I believe Kirk Cousins is the exact QB to help him with that. This Falcons team will be top 10 on both sides of the ball. Come playoff time, I believe the Falcons will be completely ready to win some games and go deep into the playoffs.
3. The Jacksonville Jaguars Finish Last in The AFC South
My third prediction is that the Jacksonville Jaguars will finish last in the AFC South. The Texans won the division last year, and I fully expect them to win it again. The Colts were a game away from making the playoffs, and this was without Anthony Richardson. I expect the Colts to be very good this year and definitely beat out the Jags for second in the division. This leaves the Titans and Jaguars battling for third in the division. The reason I have the Titans beating out the Jaguars is due to the new young core the Titans now have. With the additions of Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, I believe the Titans have exactly what they need to avoid a last place finish in the division.
4. The Kansas City Chiefs Complete the Three-Peat
My fourth prediction is that the Kansas City Chiefs will complete the first ever three-peat. For the past two years, we've said that there will be a team that can knock off the Chiefs. In 2022, nobody thought the Chiefs would be good without Tyreek Hill. In 2023, the WRs were a problem again, and almost everyone counted them out. The same narrative will occur this year, and Patrick Mahomes will defy the odds once again. If there is one thing I've learned over the last couple of years, it's that you should never bet against Mahomes in the playoffs. Don't be surprised when the Chiefs complete the first ever three-peat in NFL history.
5. The Buffalo Bills Miss the Playoffs
Yikes. That's all I can say looking at the Bills roster. Outside of Josh Allen, this Bills team really lacks talent. Last year, the Bills struggled early in the year but managed to turn it around. This year, I don't think the Bills are going to be able to get it together. Looking at their opponents, the Bills are going to have to play very well to stay above .500. I just don't think it's going to happen. The lack of talent outside of Allen is going to be the reason this Bills team will miss out on the postseason.
