Making the Case:Bailey Zappe over Mac Jones

During Week 3 of the NFL Season, Mac Jones suffered an ankle injury, causing him to be sidelined for 3-5 weeks. Before the injury, Mac Jones was not that impressive. In Week 1, the Patriots only scored 1 touchdown, and Mac Jones threw for 213 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. In Week 2, Mac Jones had very similar stats, throwing for 252 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Then, in Week 3, Mac Jones threw for 321 yards and 3 interceptions before he got injured. Yes, 3 interceptions. So overall, Mac Jones was not a bad Quarterback but he was also not a great Quarterback. In Week 4, Brian Hoyer stepped in to replace Mac Jones. But, near the end of the first quarter, Brian Hoyer was taken out due to concussion protocols. Bailey Zappe, the rookie, stepped in to replace him. He was not too impressive in this game, throwing for 99 yards and a touchdown. Then in Week 5, the Patriots dominated the Lions. Bailey Zappe threw for 188 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. The following week, the Patriots continued their domination by absolutely destroying the Browns. Bailey Zappe threw for 309 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. The Patriots got 38 points this game. So, what do all these stats mean? If you look at this from just a stats perspective, Mac Jones looks like the better Quarterback. But, if we look at the results, Bailey Zappe led the Patriots to a lot more success. In the games he started, the Patriots were 2-0. In the games Mac Jones started, the Patriots were 1-2. In addition, the Patriots scored significantly more points with Bailey Zappe taking the snaps. Clearly, Bailey Zappe is getting the job done. From here on out, Bailey Zappe should be taking the snaps, not Mac Jones.
